Founded in 1894 as a pioneering women's club, Wirral has evolved into a welcoming mixed membership community on elevated heathland. Harold Hilton, the legendary two-time Open champion and local golfer, designed the original nine-hole layout, which expanded to eighteen holes by 1907; the compact course stretches just over 5,000 yards with small elevated greens, strategic bunkers, and woodland-framed par-3s that reward precision over power, playable in little more than three hours.
