Mature parkland course at Widford largely shaped in 1924 by famed architect Harry Colt, originally founded in 1893 at Galleywood Common.
A brief history
Chelmsford Golf Club was originally founded in 1893 at Galleywood Common, making it one of the oldest in Essex. In 1924 the club moved to its current site at Widford on the south-west edge of Chelmsford, where the renowned golf architect Harry Colt laid out a new eighteen-hole course. Colt was at the peak of his powers in the 1920s and designed or remodelled many of the finest courses in the British Isles, and his Chelmsford layout remains broadly intact today. The club has a strong record in Essex county golf and has produced several county players over its long history.
