James Braid-designed 6,448-yard seaside links course established in 1892, running alongside the Essex coastline at Clacton.
A brief history
Clacton-on-Sea Golf Club was founded in 1892 and the course was later remodelled by five-time Open champion James Braid, one of the giants of early twentieth-century golf course architecture. Braid laid out hundreds of courses across the British Isles and his Clacton design is a classic example of how he made the most of natural coastal terrain. The course has retained much of his original routing and remains one of the finest examples of his work in the east of England. It has been a fixture of the Essex golf scene for over 130 years.
