About the course

Designed by Open Championship winners Sandy Herd and Ted E Ray, this mature parkland course winds through countryside near Lumley Castle and along the River Wear, with the River Wear meandering around several holes creating strategic challenges. The relatively flat layout features individual trees and copses as key hazards, and the course holds historical significance as a favourite of King George VI before his accession to the throne in 1936.
