Wearside is among Britain's select group of parkland courses that begin with a par 3 and conclude with a par 5, a distinctive feature that underscores the demanding nature of its layout near Penshaw Monument. The 7th hole, Wear View, has become regionally renowned as the club's signature hole, requiring a 130-yard carry over water to reach a well-guarded green.
