Opened in 1925 and designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie, Cavendish is widely regarded as the most authentic of his courses and is thought to have inspired his later design of Augusta National. Set amid the Peak District hills at just over 5,700 yards, the course retains virtually all of MacKenzie's original features, offering testing undulating greens and clever hazards that belie its modest length; it has been ranked a UK Top 100 layout and among the world's best courses under 6,000 yards.
