Copthorne Village Artisans Golf Club, founded in 1903, is a nine-hole course with an unusual origin: it was established after villagers of Copthorne agreed to restrict their common-land rights, in return receiving free access to play. Originally called the Copthorne Working Men's Golf Club, it remains an Artisan Golfers Association member and has produced multiple AGA champions over its 120-year history.
