Berkhamsted's heathland course in Hertfordshire, designed by James Braid, eschews bunkers in favour of natural hazards such as gorse, heather and strategically planted trees. At 6,605 yards, it plays deceptively tough, having resisted improvement in scoring despite modern equipment, and hosts the Berkhamsted Trophy, a prestigious world ranking amateur event.
